Geoff Ayton of Australia was awarded ISCP Honorary Member status on July 20, 2015 at the Australian Society for Concrete Pavements (ASCP) “2015 Concrete Pavements Conference” in Coffs Harbour, NSW, Australia.

Geoff was the Manager of the Rigid Pavements technical unit at the Roads & Maritime Services Agency (RMS) (—formerly The Roads and Traffic Authority-RTA) of NSW until his retirement from full-time work in 2014. He worked for NSW RTA beginning in 1974, rising from the position of Assistant Works Engineer in Port Macquarie to Manager of the Rigid Pavements Unit, in the RMS Pavements Branch in Sydney—a position he held since 1989. His primary responsibilities have included monitoring international developments in concrete pavement technology, and the initiation of technology transfer and extension of industry training to field staff.

In this capacity, he served as author and editor of the “2001 RTA Concrete Pavement Manual”, and is the co-author (with Kevin Abrams) and editor of the 1996 RTA publication “Guide to the Design and Construction of Concrete Roundabout Pavements”. He has also authored several papers for international conferences and workshops. He served as the Australian member of PIARC Committee C7 for Concrete Roads from 1992 to 2000, and has served as a member of several Austroads/APRG working groups.

Geoff has been a member of ISCP since 2001 and has always actively supported ISCP through participation as a speaker or moderator at the International Conferences on Concrete Pavements (ICCP) since the 1993 5^th ICCP at Purdue, where he made a keynote presentation at the conference opening. He has also participated at the joint ISCP/ASCP workshops held in Australia.

Geoff has long been one of the internationally recognizable faces of concrete pavement engineering in Australia. He is a very knowledgeable and a technically engaging professional who has contributed greatly to the development of concrete pavement technology in Australia through his work on developing specifications, guides, manuals and training courses for the RMS. He has also contributed to the international body of knowledge with his papers and participation in international committees, workshops and conferences.

Geoff is now working as an independent consultant based in Sydney, Australia.
