Program Description
ACC’s Associate in Applied Science, Concrete Technology degree is the only one of its kind in the nation! The concrete technology program at ACC was started in the late 1960s as one of the original associates degree curriculums offered by the Portland Cement Association. The comprehensive program, which provides hands‐on instruction, covers all concrete and many related industries, including: laboratory testing, construction inspection, aggregates, cementitious materials, concrete masonry, ready‐mix concrete, hardscape products, and more! The program’s graduates are employed in management, quality control, engineering inspection, sales, research and development, technical service, and production/supervision.
The home of the program is the World Center for Concrete Technology (WCCT), a $7 million, 43,000 square foot premier research and educational facility located on the campus. For more information on the WCCT visit: http://www.wcct.net/
The concrete technology program also benefits from the local presence of such industry leaders as Lafarge NA’s Alpena Cement Plant, Besser Company, the world’s leading manufacturer of concrete products equipment, and local aggregate and concrete producers and building and road contractors.
ACC is a fully accredited two‐year institution offering liberal arts, transfer, and technical programs. It is located near Lake Huron in Alpena, a city of about 12,000, and boasts four seasons of outdoor sports and recreation, and numerous indoor recreational, educational and entertainment venues and other activities.
