The National Concrete Pavement Technology Center (CP Tech Center) has entered into a $6.7 million cooperative agreement with the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) to advance the development and deployment of innovative technologies for concrete pavements. The five-year agreement, finalized in late September 2024, aims to introduce new materials, construction methods, and design practices that enhance pavement performance and extend the lifespan of concrete roads.
Under this agreement, the CP Tech Center will collaborate with a diverse team of experts from 9 universities and 13 consulting firms across the country. The team’s collective expertise will be instrumental in evaluating and implementing cutting-edge technologies, ensuring that innovations are beneficial and rapidly adopted in the field. The initiative is set to address current challenges in pavement durability, focusing on integrating effective practices into mainstream use.
A key component of the project will be the development of impactful technology transfer efforts, ensuring that knowledge and tools are delivered to the right stakeholders. Through this cooperative agreement, the CP Tech Center will play a pivotal role in bringing emerging technologies to the forefront, driving improvements that can be widely applied within the concrete pavement industry.
