The use of concrete overlays on asphalt pavements has become increasingly popular as a rehabilitation treatment. TRB will host a webinar on Tuesday, April 4, 2023 from 3:00 PM to 4:30 PM Eastern that will provide agencies with a national perspective on the design, construction, maintenance, and performance of bonded concrete overlays on asphalt pavements. Presenters will provide viewpoints on how recent research may be implemented by roadway authorities, enhance ongoing technology transfer related to concrete overlays, and the potential impacts on acceptance of concrete overlays.
This webinar is based on NCHRP Research Report 1007: Evaluation of Bonded Concrete Overlays on Asphalt Pavements.
This webinar is sponsored by TRB’s National Highway Cooperative Research Program and the Standing Technical Committees on Design and Rehabilitation of Concrete Pavements and Concrete Pavement Construction and Rehabilitation.
Webinar agenda and presenters
- Overview of the national performance of bonded concrete overlays on asphalt pavements – Linda Pierce, NCE
- Enhancements to national concrete overlay technology transfer – Dan King, Concrete Pavement Technology Center at Iowa State University
- Challenges to implementation of concrete overlays on asphalt pavements – Tom Burnham, Minnesota Department of Transportation
- Question and answer session moderated by John Donahue, Missouri Department of Transportation
The first 60 minutes of the webinar will be for presentations and the final 30 minutes will be reserved for audience questions.
Learning Objectives
At the end of this webinar, participants will be able to:
- Identify the design procedures, construction methods, maintenance, and historical performance of bonded concrete overlays on asphalt pavements throughout the U.S.
- Apply research in NCHRP Research Report 1007 to enhance technology transfer related to concrete overlays
- Explain the potential impacts the report might have on acceptance of concrete overlays on asphalt, as well as implementation
