ISCP is proud to share that our 2021 Honorary Member inductee, Ram Kanwar Jain, has been awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award by the Indian Roads Congress (IRC). The award was conferred on October 8, 2022 during the inauguration of 81st annual session of IRC in Lucknow, India, at the hands of Gen. V K Singh, Hon’ble Minister of State for Road Transport and Highways and Civil Aviation, in the presence of Hon’ble Yogi Adityanath, Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh state, and Hon’ble Nitin Gadkari, Minster for Road Transport and Highways of India.
RK Jain has contributed greatly to the highway profession, especially with respect to concrete roads. He remained convener of H-3 rigid pavement committee of IRC from 2011 to 2018 and, prior to that, he was its co-convener. He has revised 15 codes/guidelines and added 3 new codes during his time.
Indian Roads Congress (IRC) is the premier body of Highway Engineers in India. It was established in 1934 and was registered as a society in 1937. The first session was held in Town Hall, Delhi and 73 engineers from various states attended the session. At present, it has a membership of about 18,000 engineers and has published 275 codes/guidelines, which are written for expressways, national highways, other roads, tunnels, and contract documents.
