PEOPLE ON THE MOVE … Nov., Dec., Into 2022!

Meet the CP Tech Center‘s Newest Board Member, Steve Prosek!

Steve Prosek has worked for Kokosing Construction Company, Inc. for more than 25 years. Prosek, Area Manager, Concrete Paving-Kokosing, has led the company’s construction of over $200 million in freeway projects throughout Ohio and mountainous West Virginia. He has also led multiple Kokosing airport paving projects.

He oversees all aspects of Kokosing’s concrete division, including project selection, bidding, procurement, staffing, scheduling, safety, field work, and quality control. He also plays a key role in Kokosing’s concrete equipment purchasing, operations, and maintenance (including managing their two portable central mix batch plants). He is also heavily involved in promoting moving concrete paving innovation and research into construction practice—as when he presented through Ohio’s Local Technical Assistance Program Kokosing’s Cleveland I-271 experience with stringless paving to address constructibility issues such as space limitations and phasing. Prosek serves on the CP Tech Center’s Executive Board of Directors as one of its at-large contractors.

As 2021 winds to a close, the National Concrete Pavement Technology Center (CP Tech Center) staff have been involved in many webinars, seminars, conferences, and meetings.

NOVEMBER 4:
CP Tech Center held a local event held in Overland Park, Kansas.
Steve Tritsch, Associate Director-CP Tech Center, presented at the 24th Annual Concrete Pavement, Parking Lot, and Flatwork Seminar about the “Basics of Current-Day Concrete” to 80 attendees from across the Kansas City metropolitan area.
The transfer of research findings and technological innovation into “Everyday Concrete Paving Practice” is a key focus of the CP Tech Center along with another major focus of “Concrete Paving Research”.
Dan King, Research Engineer-CP Tech Center, and along with Iowa DOT staff performed falling weight deflectometer testing on a fiber-reinforced concrete overlay in Worth County, Iowa. King also joined municipal staff from Ankeny, Iowa, in applying penetrating surface sealer technology to the saw cut joints of a new concrete pavement.

NOVEMBER 9:
The CP Tech Center Concrete Pavement Technology Tuesday Webinar
Dr. John Kevern, University of Missouri-Kansas City and Kevin Fouch, Casey’s, shared how penetrating sealers can help protect concrete pavement investments with 184 participants.

Peter Taylor, Director-CP Tech Center and Gordon Smith, Associate Director-CP Tech Center joined discussions among Massachusetts DOT representatives and the concrete pavement industry on the potential for future project plans to consider concrete pavement alternatives.

NOVEMBER 2nd, 16th, and 30th:
Each year the CP Tech Center and Iowa Concrete Paving Association organize the Municipal Streets Seminar for the personnel at Iowa Public Works. This year 208 attendees joined 3 Municipal Streets sessions held via webinar.
1 – The Iowa Public Works Service Bureau established to help Iowa’s municipal employees “communicate to innovate” and Iowa DOT’s Local Systems Bureau established to assist in local compliance with state and federal requirements.
2 – The second featured an update from the fly ash industry on the fly ash supply today and its future outlook.
3 – The third highlighted the city of Cedar Rapids’ “Paving for Progress” program that won the 2013 voter support for a 10-year 1% local option sales tax to maintain, repair, construct, and reconstruct the city’s public streets. Recently, the city’s citizens voted to renew the 1% local option sales tax for another 10 years of local infrastructure improvements. VIDEOS of 3 different webinars:
