The American Concrete Pavement Association (ACPA) and the National Concrete Pavement Technology Center (CP Tech Center)‘s Technology Tuesday Webinar Series 2021 continues. These webinars are ideal for DOT, City / County, Consultants, and Contractors. So far, there have been 11 new webinars in 2021. ACPA and CP Tech aim to expedite the integration of advanced approaches, technologies, and research into everyday concrete paving practice via training webinars and videos, as well as other resources. The webinars all begin at Noon (Central) / 1:00 p.m. (Eastern) and run for approximately 60 minutes. The next, and last 2021, webinar in the series, is scheduled for Wednesday December 14th:

MARCH: “Advancements in Our Knowledge and Action to Control ASR in Concrete Pavements”
Presenters: Dr. Larry Sutter, Michigan Tech University; Patricia Baer, PennDOT; and Jim Casilio, Pennsylvania Aggregates & Concrete Association
APRIL: “Understanding the Value of Competition”
Presenters: Dr. Jeremy Gregory, MIT Concrete Sustainability Hub; and Leif Wathne, ACPA
MAY: “An Introduction to Recycled Concrete Aggregates (RCA)“
Presenters: Dr. Tara Cavalline, PhD, PE, University of North Carolina/Charlotte and
Matt Fonte, Castle Rock Construction Co.
JUNE: “Roller Compacted Concrete for Roadway Applications”
Presenters: Fares Abdo, P.E., Morgan Corporation
Andy Johnson, South Carolina DOT / Southeast Cement Promotion Association (SCPA)
Chris Carwie, I-20 / I-59: AG Peltz, Contractor / Case Study
Roller Compacted Concrete (RCC) is now being used increasingly on roadway applications. Learn how RCC offers many of the same benefits as conventional concrete including long term durability, with improved constructability in the urban environment at low installation costs. Discussions will cover how RCC is being used in roadway and other applications.
JULY: “Innovation with Concrete Overlays for DOT’s and Municipalities“
Covers how concrete overlays have been recognized by the FHWA’s Every Day Counts Program, and this webinar will share insights about how they are used as innovative, inexpensive solutions to extend pavement life.
AUGUST: “Resiliency Proper Planning Prevents Disaster & Aids in Crisis Management—A Concrete Perspective“
How studies have shown that for every dollar you invest as part of disaster planning, you will save 5-6 dollars (on average) when you are in crisis management mode. From properly designing evacuation routes, to ensuring emergency vehicles have the ability to respond, resiliency using concrete helps road agencies be better prepared. Concrete Roads are a cost-effective resilient solution.
Presented by: Greg Dean, American Concrete Pavement Association, Southeast
Hosted by: Dr. Peter Taylor, CP Tech Center
SEPTEMBER: “Advancements in Performance Engineered Mixtures (PEMs)”
Provides an overview of the current state of the technology to deliver quality concrete pavement consistently, as well as innovative test methods that are integral to the successful implementation of PEM.
OCTOBER: “Machine vs. Concrete—Building Long-Lasting Concrete Pavements”
Taylor reviews the properties of concrete paving mixtures that are critical to long-term performance and how they can be controlled. The discussion includes a review of how these properties are affected by construction activities and when; how they can be measured; and what feedback-loop data are needed for paver operators to consistently deliver smooth, long-lasting pavements and to help move toward automation of some systems. Scofield follows with news about the objectives and activity of a new ACPA RT&I Functional Committee and how, working together with agency, academia and industry, we can explore new approaches to achieve the best in concrete pavements.
Presented by Dr. Peter Taylor, CP Tech Center Director and Larry Scofield-ACPA
NOVEMBER: “Understanding Penetration Sealers for Concrete Pavements”
When should you consider using a penetrating sealer? Some municipalities and private sector owners use sealers on roads, bridges, parking lots, and sidewalks. Learn what technologies are new in this area, as well as if there is new data that your agency will find helpful in this product category.
Presenters: John Kevern, PhD., University of Missouri – Kansas City and Kevin Fouch, Operations Supervisor (Retired)-Casey’s Corporation
