June 15 | 12:00 pm – 1:00 pm (CDT-USA)
FREE WEBINAR: “Future of Emerging Supplementary Cementitious Materials (SCMs)”
Durability based concrete mix design + Fly Ash
Texas A&M Engineering Experiment Station (TEES)
REGISTRATION—WebEx will be sent upon registration:
https://na.eventscloud.com/ereg/index.php?eventid=622096&
Join the Center for Infrastructure Renewal via WebEx for a presentation by Anol Mukhopadhyay, Senior Research Scientist-Texas A&M Transportation Institute and Adjunct Professor, Civil Engineering-Texas A&M University on durability based concrete mix design;
Followed by a panel discussion with Richard Szecsy, Ivan Diaz, Lisa Lukefahr and Anol Mukhopadhyay on the current fly ash shortage we are facing. The panel will provide insight into the current problem and discuss a comprehensive performance-based approach to provide an effective solution.
Dr. Anol Mukhopadhyay is Chair-ACI 221 (Aggregate), and a member of numerous technical committees in ACI:
—ACI 232-Fly Ash in Concrete
—ACI 236-Material Science of Concrete
—ACI 242-Alternative Cements]
—ACI-SDC
—TRB
—ASTM
Dr. Mukhopadhyay has over 24 years of research and project management experience related to materials, durability, testing and repair of concrete pavement; with extensive experience on developing test methods for measuring key concrete fresh properties and durability (especially alkali silica reaction [ASR]); and has been actively involved in developing, improving, and implementing technologies for highway and airfield concrete pavements for more than 17 years.
Other areas of his research include:
• Recycled materials
• Waste materials
• High-performance concrete (HPC)
• Ultra-HPC (UHPC)
• Nano-materials in concrete
• Cement chemistry
• Cement paste rheology
• Coal combustion by-products
• Fly ash alternatives
• Concrete microstructures
• Petrography
PANELISTS:
Ivan Diaz, PHD, Director, Research-Boral Resources, LLC, Taylorsville, Georgia
Diaz holds a PhD in engineering from Louisiana Tech University and has more than 15 years of experience in fly ash research.
—He is the Chair of ACI Committee 232, Fly Ash in Concrete.
—He is a Member of:
• Committees 240, Natural Pozzolans
• 236, Material Science of Concrete
• 242, Alternative Cements
• ASTM Committees C01 on Cement
• C09 on Concrete and Aggregates
• Natural Pozzolan Association
—His research interests include:
• Fly ash in concrete
• Natural pozzolan reactivity in concrete
• Alternative supplementary cementitious materials
• Identifying and developing processes to beneficially use coal combustion products and other pozzolans
Lisa Lukefahr, Executive Director-Texas Concrete Pavement Association
1993: Lisa began her career with Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) in the Research Section, coordinating research activities in planning, construction, pavements and materials
1995: Transferred to the Pavements Section, then to the Materials and Tests Division—concentrated on hot-mix issue
1999: Began work in the Concrete and Cement Laboratories
2004: September: Became the Manager of the Rigid Pavements and Concrete Branch
Lisa feels that her biggest contributions were modernizing TxDOT’s analytical capabilities of cement and fly ash and incorporating 20-years of CRCP research (some cost-saving, some performance-enhancing, some longevity-improving) into the 2011 statewide CRCP standards
2013: April: Lisa explored her planning and programming roots, spending 16 months in TxDOT’s Project Management Office
2016: April: Lisa ended her 26-year TxDOT career as Austin District Laboratory Engineer-TxDOT
2016: May: Became the Executive Director of the Texas Concrete Pavement Association. She hopes to support and promote the use of quality concrete pavements in Texas for years to come.
Richard S. Szecsy, PhD., PE, FACI, Chief Operations Officer, Charley’s Concrete
Richard has worked internationally as:
• Technical expert and business development director for a $4B ready-mix and aggregate company
• Department Head at a university
• Vice-President and Board member for one of the largest privately held ready-mix concrete and aggregate companies in the US
• President & CEO of the largest state aggregate and concrete trade association in the US
• Current Chief Operating Officer-Charley’s Concrete
He served on several state and national committees as well as Boards of Direction for ASTM, ACI, ASCE, and the NRMCA.
