The Women in Concrete Alliance (WICA) met during the North American Concrete Alliance’s (NACA)‘s virtual fly-in event on Earth Day, April 22. Angela Folkestad, Executive Director-Colorado/Wyoming Chapter-American Concrete Pavement Association (ACPA) and WICA Steering Committee member said, “The group was excited to participate in event. The steering committee members shared their thoughts on sustainability in the industry, including the connection to climate, transportation funding, workforce development, and trucking.”
She said that WICA members also participated in meetings with their respective congressional delegations. With roots dating to a 2005 luncheon held at the World of Concrete, the WICA seeks to connect women in the concrete construction industry.
She added, “Over the last year, the group has been renewed, reformulated, and refreshed to address today’s social issues, and recognizes that their mission goes beyond gender to encompass industry diversity, equity, and inclusion. WICA’s goal of providing opportunities for networking and growth, as well as inspiration for those choosing the concrete industry as a career path remains strong.”
