The American Concrete Institute (ACI) has held online courses and webinars for several years (available on-demand online), but the online webinars and courses have been an essential teaching platform in the year 2020! The newest upcoming concrete pavement webinar titled “Proportioning & Testing Concrete Mixtures for Hot Weather” will be held Tuesday, July 14, 2020.
Description: Hot weather concreting poses unique challenges and concerns for designers, concrete producers and contractors. Join ACI Committee 305 for a discussion of the options available to improve concrete performance and examples of the necessary testing and precautions to manage hot weather concreting successfully:

PREVIOUS ACI (3) Concrete Pavement Webinars Available ON DEMAND: All live webinars are recorded and have been made available for on-demand viewing. Each webinar course contains the recorded webinar, a PDF of the presentation, and a quiz for CEU (PDH) credit. For more webinars, see the link below.
1 • “Reducing Joint Damage Caused by Deicing Salts”
A recorded webinar from February 4, 2020
Concrete pavements and exterior flatwork generally provide excellent performance in all climates and exposures. Concrete durability is an essential component in delivering the return on investment that makes concrete an economical and sustainable material. In recent years, the industry has seen an increase in premature deterioration at joints and saw cuts in concrete pavements and flatwork in areas where winter storm events demand the application of deicing chemicals, which are most commonly chloride-based.
INSTRUCTIONS: View the recorded webinar. Complete 10-question quiz with a score of 80% or higher to receive a certificate for 0.1 CEU (equivalent to 1.0 PDH).
Continuing Education Credit: 0.1 CEU (1.0 PDH)
Approved AIA and ICC

2 • “How To Handle Concrete Placements Exposed To Rain”
A recorded webinar from April 7, 2020
If you have been in the concrete industry long enough, there is a good chance you’ve had a concrete placement exposed to rain. Scheduling demands often force contractors to work with rain events rather than cancel placements. If a rain event occurs during a placement, concrete can still be placed safely if the rain event is handled properly. This presentation will discuss how different stages of placing and finishing are affected by a rain event and what options are available to contractors at each stage. Preventative actions and the development of a wet weather plan will be discussed. Repair options will also be covered for those placements that have been affected by rain.
INSTRUCTIONS: View the recorded webinar. Complete 10-question quiz with a score of 80% or higher to receive a certificate for 0.10 CEU (equivalent to 1.0 PDH).
Continuing Education Credit: 0.10 CEU (1.0 PDH)

3 • “Controlling and Preventing Cracks in Concrete Flatwork”
DESCRIPTION: Cracking of slabs and pavements is perhaps the most common issue in concrete construction and can be the source of owner complaints, held up payments, and even litigation. This is unfortunate when the great majority of such issues are entirely preventable. This presentation will review the most prevalent influences on cracking including those related to design, materials, environmental conditions, site preparation, and construction methods and sequences. Management of some of these influences can be accomplished through the selection of optimum materials and methods. Environmental influences may change during construction and these require constant monitoring and planned reactions. Examples of uncontrolled (inevitable) cracking in various types of projects will be reviewed with respect to causes and preferred preventative actions. The most critical influences (though sometimes elusive) can almost always be managed so as to prevent most uncontrolled cracking. Also discussed are some simple tools and indicators for monitoring cracking potential, specific preventative measures, and best practices for avoiding such problem cracking will be recommended.
INSTRUCTIONS: View the recorded webinar. Complete 10-question quiz with a score of 80% or higher to receive a certificate for 0.10 CEU (equivalent to 1.0 PDH).
