Meet the National Concrete Pavement Technology Center (CPTech Center) Board Members—Robert Seghetti!
Robert Seghetti, President-Acme Concrete Paving, Inc., serves on the CP Tech Center’s Executive Board of Directors as an at-large representative of the contractors working across the nation’s concrete industry.
Acme Concrete Paving is based in Spokane, Washington and provides concrete paving, diamond grinding, saw cutting and sealing, joint sealing, and pavement rehabilitation all over the western United States for highways and interstates, intersections and city streets, airfields, and industrial developments.
Seghetti earned his BS in civil engineering from Spokane’s Gonzaga University and began working for Acme Concrete Paving in 1985—first as project engineer, then as paving superintendent, and then as concrete paving division manager. Since 2002, Seghetti has been president of Acme Concrete Paving and involved in both the company’s contract management and construction management. As a result, Seghetti’s extensive experience with not only the business but also the technical aspects of contracting make his voice a valuable one in guiding CP Tech Center activities.
The National Concrete Pavement Technology Center (CPTech Center)
work is continuing to strengthen the world of concrete pavements
… even in the era of social distancing …
March 1 – 3
Iowa City, Iowa: The Iowa Ready Mixed Concrete Association’s Annual Convention. Gordon Smith introduced the CP Tech Center‘s new Guide to Concrete Trails as valuable for helping producers and contractors build interest and find guidance on trail economy, design, and construction.
Smith also encouraged approximately 40 ready-mixed concrete producers and allied associates at the convention to try the Super Air Meter (SAM) that provides QA/QC testing of the durability of a fresh concrete mixture by assessing air content and air distribution (spacing factor).
March 5 & 6
Indianapolis, Indiana-March 5: Gordon Smith and Jerod Gross presented the 2nd edition of the Integrated Materials and Construction Practices (IMCP) Manual to an audience of 52 DOT and industry representatives at the 6th one-day IMCP Workshop (since the manual’s 2019 publication).
Indianapolis, Indiana-March 6: Smith and Gross presented the 2nd edition of the Integrated Materials and Construction Practices (IMCP) Manual to an audience of 74 DOT and industry representatives at the 7th one-day IMCP Workshop (since the manual’s 2019 publication).
March 11
Waterloo, Iowa: Iowa’s Concrete Pavement “Lunch & Learn” training continued on the topic of the “Basics of Concrete Paving Construction and Inspection”. Dan King, Iowa Concrete Paving Association/Iowa Ready Mixed Concrete Association presented to 38 participants—including many students.
March 12
Iowa City, Iowa: Iowa’s Concrete Pavement “Lunch & Learn” training on the topic of the “Basics of Concrete Paving Construction and Inspection”. Jerod Gross presented to approximately 20 participants—including many students.
March 12
Las Vegas, Nevada: Gordon Smith braved the crowds and endeavored to practice social distancing at the triennial CONEXPO-CON/AGG 2020 (Held March 10-14), where total attendance was estimated to exceed 100,000. Smith’s educational session showcased Performance-Engineered Mixtures (PEM) for concrete producers, paving contractors, and associates.
CONEXPO-CON/AGG HISTORY: CONEXPO is 111 years old! The first CONEXPO was known as the “Road Show”, and was held in 1909 in Columbus, Ohio—the same year President Theodore Roosevelt left office, the Orville brothers sold the world’s first military plane, and Albert Einstein worked on theoretical physics! Modern construction as we know it was in its infancy. Year after year, decade after decade, the Road Show continued to expand, revolutionizing the construction industry. And Caterpillar grew right alongside the show. In 1926, the newly formed Caterpillar Tractor Company exhibited for the first time, along with 295 equipment manufacturers in Chicago’s famous Coliseum in Chicago, Illinois. In 1957, the Construction Industry Manufacturers Association took over the Road Show, which continued to evolve into what is now known as CONEXPO/CON-AGG. For the CONEXPO-CON/AGG HISTORY webpage, please go to: https://www.cat.com/en_US/campaigns/event/conexpo-2020/conexpo-articles/history-of-the-show.html. The next CONEXPO-CON/AGG SHOW will be held March 14-18, 2023.
Then COVID-19 interrupted things …
… with in-person meetings and training events cancelled, postponed, or moved online. However, CP Tech Center work is continuing to strengthen the world of concrete pavement even in the era of social distancing (as evidenced by wide participation in its recent concrete overlays webinars)!
