At the World of Concrete 2020 in early February in Las Vegas, Nevada, Bill Palmer, Concrete Construction Magazine presented the award of “Most Influential 2020: “Four Under Forty 2020” to Sherry Sullivan, National Account Manager at ITW Commercial Construction, PNA Construction Technologies-Toronto, Canada. Sherry is also a former long-time ISCP Director, serving from 2013 to 2018!
“I was very honoured to be recognized at the
World of Concrete by Bill Palmer of Concrete Construction Magazine,
as one of 2020’s four under forty most influential people
in the concrete industry. Thank you, Bill!”
… Sherry Sullivan, quote on LinkedIn
When Sherry talks about PNA’s Thin Concrete Pavement (TCP) system, she brings passion to this new technology: “I love seeing the interest in TCP growing. I feel so strongly about it that I changed my whole career path because I believe it’s the right thing for concrete pavements and it’s exciting to be able to optimize people’s concrete pavement designs so that they can have better-performing and lower-cost concrete pavements.”
Sullivan earned her master’s degree in civil engineering from Ryerson University-Toronto where an enthusiastic first-year engineering professor influenced her choice of concrete as a career path. “I [completed] my undergrad and, at least partly because of this professor, went on to [complete] my master’s—specializing in concrete materials.”
During graduate school she worked full-time for St. Marys Cement, then moved to the Ready-Mixed Concrete Association of Ontario, and then the Cement Association of Canada (CAC). In 2018, she left to work for PNA, and said, “I enjoyed my time with the associations but think it’s better to have new blood coming in to keep things new and innovative. For me, 10 years in association life was the right amount of time. But now I can take what I learned and bring it to the private sector.”
During the first year at PNA, Sullivan’s job was to get contractors excited about TCP and begin to develop a network of contractor partners, but now she is presenting the concept to architects, owners, and developers. “It’s just a different audience. I love teaching people how we can optimize their designs using modern methods,” she said.
