The AGM will be held in conjunction with the SYDNEY FORUM: “Sustainability, Construction, Maintenance”. “Sustainability” is the ability to maintain rates of renewable resource harvest, pollution creation, and non-renewable resource depletion that can be continued indefinitely.
—Patrick Hastings will outline ISCA’s role in infrastructure sustainability
—John Harvison will advise on Transport for NSW’s strategies and requirements to achieve it.
—James Fleetwood will highlight the common defects found on the Woolgoolga to Ballina rigid pavements Sections 3 & 4. He will discuss the causes and the pre-approved dispositions established for their swift rectification for a defect-free handover.
—Basil Ben will provide an update regarding revisions to specifications and drawings, and the rigid pavement technology program.
—Paul Burville will explore different options for concrete road maintenance. Increasing demands and expectations of road authorities and users, and reduced working windows, are creating pressure on contractors to deliver cost effective and innovative solutions for concrete road maintenance.

—Geoff Ayton and Sid Daher will provide a review of the key requirements for the successful design and installation of dowels. There has been relatively little use of dowels in NSW road pavements since the 1970s, but they are receiving renewed interest with the increase in urban widening of old dowelled JRCP pavements.
—Justin Moss will provide an insight into the exciting future of ASCP, including:

  • The strategy for 2020
  • Corporate Membership improvements
  • More stakeholder engagement
  • Increased use of social media

Kevin Abrams will provide an overview of the upcoming events in 2020 and the next conference in 2021.

CPEE Concrete Pavement Design & Construction
Arcadis  |
Level 32/140 William St  |  Vic 3000
Melbourne, Australia

This Center for Pavement Engineering Education two-day short course will inform on the principles & practices involved in concrete pavement design & construction and the program will closely follow the content in the appropriate Chapters of the Austroads Guide to Pavement Technology – Part 2: Pavement Structural Design and Part 4C: Materials for the Concrete Pavements, which are used as the principal references. This course is ideal for engineers and engineering technologists working for federal, state, or local authorities, consultants and contractors, and is ideal for those involved in the design and construction of roads and pavements where heavier traffic and loads may be encountered. The course will be presented by Justin Moss.

The materials content will however cover more information than is in the current Guide, as the selection of materials is critical to producing a road/pavement design that will deliver both structural and functional performance. Appropriate joint types and their design are key elements and will be discussed in detail. The important construction aspects will also be elaborated on.

The course covers:

  • Pavement Design Systems
  • Construction & Maintenance Considerations
  • Road Environment
  • Subgrade Evaluation
  • Materials
  • Design Traffic and Case Study
  • Structural Thickness & Pavement Design
  • Jointing & Reinforcement
  • Construction Aspects
  • Finishing
  • Worked Examples
  • Design Exercise and Workshop
