Ugur Ibrahim Altay, Konya Metropolitan Mayor, said, “[Aslum Street] is an important link between the Eregli Road and Aksaray Road, connecting industrial sites and especially the use of high-tonnage vehicles. [It] is the first time they implemented concrete roads.”

MORE ECONOMIC AND LONG LASTING

With the completion of the infrastructure works, the concrete road works were started with a special concrete spreader machine, Mayor Altay said. In this study, we aimed to make it 30 percent more economical and long lasting than bitumen road pavements. The Aslım Street is 1.2 kilometers long and 13.5 meters wide in area. If the study of this new system is successful, it will be spread, and will be a significant savings!” he said.

Two earlier RaillyNews articles (Dec 2018 and Feb 2019):
RaillyNews December 2018 article titled Eskişehir Concrete Road Application Started in İnönü” reported that the Eskişehir Metropolitan Municipality signed another first in Eskişehir with its concrete road application. As the material used in the asphalt pavement came from abroad and it was expensive, the ‘Concrete Road’ application by the Metropolitan Municipality was started in İnönü—another first in a Metropolitan Municipality of Turkey, on the road to Inonu-Kandilli concrete road works. President Büyükerşen examined the work on the ground, especially in rural areas, especially in the city by extending this application to minimize the dependence on foreign countries underlined.

Turkey’s attempted and successful results obtained in various cities ‘Concrete Road’ application began with studies conducted in İnönü. Roadworks Teams, who were informed theoretically about the application at Taşbaşı Cultural Center Red Hall, conducted a concrete road trial at the end of the week. In practice, the material consisting of a mixture of domestic cement, aggregate and water was laid with paver and compressed by cylinders.

President Büyükerşen examined the concrete road construction works on site and stated, “The asphalt material we received with big money from abroad is a big burden. In addition, we are extremely upset about being dependent on this issue. As for Nadir Küpeli, Industrial Zone President offered to make a trial concrete road and we immediately accepted! I used to think that we couldn’t do [rural roads] while the highways were being made in the form of concrete roads, [but they are being constructed] even in America, which doesn’t have any problems in terms of oil. The reason why Americans prefer concrete is that they are both long-lasting and economical. We wanted to see the work done by our teams in the Road Services. As far as I can see, a very comfortable and quality way has emerged. This is a very pleasing result for us.”

“Our intention is to prefer such concrete roads
throughout the city, especially in rural roads.”
—President Büyükerşen

“Both labor forces will be long-lasting as well as reducing the dependence on foreign economic applications, I hope this would be beneficial to our city,” he said. President Büyükerşen supported Organized Industrial Zone Chairman and İsmail BulutTurkey Cement Manufacturers’ Association CEO, and thanked the union officials.

RaillyNews February 2019 article titled “Eskişehir Concrete Road Application Continued”, stated the concrete road application, which has been tried worldwide and has received successful results, continues with the works carried out in İnönü. The teams continued their work on the road of approximately 10 kilometers, piled the material consisting of a mixture of domestic cement, aggregate and water with paver and compresses them with cylinders.
Road Construction Maintenance and Repair Office officials stated:
• They do not have [weather-related] obstacles on concrete roads—can be applied in summer and winter
(asphalt [can only be applied] in hot weather on duty and responsibility roads)
• Concrete roads are more economical than other coatings—it can be applied both domestic and long-lasting and non-dependent
• Concrete roads are more and durable than asphalt
• Our work on the concrete road will continue by developing ourselves technically, Kendimizi
