The Australian Society for Concrete Pavements (ASCP) 5th Concrete Pavements Conference was held July 21-24, 2019 at the Crowne Plaza Hunter Valley in NSW, Australia. The 5th Conference attracted close to 200 delegates from the concrete pavements industry—locally, nationally, and internationally. In attendance were all of the Australian Board Members, several of whom are also ISCP Board Members: Anna-Carin Brink, John Figueroa, Justin Moss and Craig Whitaker. In addition, several more ISCP Board Members made the trip to Australia: Corey Zollinger, Secretary-Treasurer-ISCP, Tom Burnham, Rolf Breitenbücher, and Leif Wathne.
Todd Myers, President-ASCP expressed his gratitude to all attendees of the 5th Conference and stated on the ASCP website, “We thank you for attending the ASCP 5th Concrete Pavements Conference! The ASCP biennial Concrete Pavements Conference is the only conference in the field of heavy-duty concrete pavements in Australia. The 5th Conference presented a wealth of information and experience for industry practitioners and included a number of international experts as key presenters. Conference organizers invited dynamic, forward-focused presenters who ignited informed discussion and brought expertise in the following concrete pavement areas:
- Road
- Airfields
- Other concrete pavements—ports, heavy industrial, rail/light rail
- Rehabilitation including recycling of pavements or materials, pavement maintenance, and strategic pavement interventions
- Developments in equipment for concrete pavement construction
- Innovations”
Myers also stated that 5th Conference provided an unrivalled opportunity to be part of a community of concrete pavements practitioners at the leading edge of our profession. It also provided an excellent forum for networking, education, and an opportunity to meet and interact with engineers, researchers, academics, practitioners and professionals from Australia and overseas, providing ample opportunity for professional growth.
Leif Wathne, Vice President-ACPA and ISCP Board Member said, “It was a terrific conference a lot of strong technical content. ISCP Board members provided a significant presence, including ten of the talks at the conference. ISCP also participated in post-Conference WORKSHOPS—Major concrete road pavement value; Major concrete road pavement upgrades and rehabilitation; and Roller Compacted Concrete.”
