EUPAVE WORKSHOP
The European Concrete Paving Association (EUPAVE) will give a workshop on Monday October 7, 2019: “Long-Life and Circular Concrete Pavements for Sustainable Cities and Regions” during the World Road Association (PIARC) XXVIth (26th) World Road Congress in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, to be held October 6-10, 2019. Held every 4 years since Paris 1908, this 2019 Abu Dabi CONGRESS will focus on “Connecting Cultures – Enabling Economies” and will bring together many ministers and deputy ministers from the 121-member countries and more than 5,000 delegates from more than 100 countries, with a total of more than 8,000 participants. More than 600 abstracts written by authors from around the world were submitted for the 2019 Congress. The Congress will be accompanied by a large EXHIBITION with nearly 200 exhibitors.
The EUPAVE WORKSHOP will address questions related to the various principles of circular economy and sustainability related to concrete roads such as:
- How to achieve long-life concrete pavement through proper design and construction?
- Which are the available techniques for a pavement preservation strategy, both in terms of structural performance and driving comfort?
- How can concrete roads be introduced in a country with limited experience and equipment?
- Which possibilities does concrete offer for urban and interurban applications?
- What are the environmental benefits of pervious concrete pavements?
- What is a removable urban pavement and what are the advantages?
André Jasienski, Managing Director-FEBELCEM will chair the event while Luc Rens, Managing Director-EUPAVE and Member-PIARC TC E2 will moderate. WORKSHOP PROGRAM:

VVVIth PIARC Congress
The VVVIth PIARC Congress will host 150 presentations with more than 50 workshops and sessions, and will be a unique opportunity to present numerous technical results and best practices in all areas related to road and road transport. It is aimed at all stakeholders from around the world, from both the public and private sectors, who can meet to present and discuss new approaches and solutions and share their experiences. The Congress PROGRAM features the presentation of the results of the work undertaken by PIARC’s 21 Technical Committees and Task Forces, a number of specialized sessions and workshops—INCLUDING EUPAVE’S WORKSHOP OCTOBER 7—dealing with topics of current and future interest and a large exhibition in which road administrations, equipment and service providers, consultants and road-related organizations will be present. Ministers will share their views on the status and future of roads and road transport.
Claude Van Rooten, President-PIARC stated, “Over time, countries all over the world have come to depend on roads as the main public asset to provide year-round access and mobility for their populations. As a consequence, today’s road networks must operate continuously even as new demands, expectations and technologies surge and pose new challenges. Rising to meet these challenges demands great knowledge and commitment from road practitioners worldwide. Every 4 years, PIARC organizes the World Road Congress as the premier forum for road and road-transportation related information and knowledge exchange to allow road professionals to obtain, in a single event, relevant and up-to-date knowledge on topics of current concern. For the first time, the World Road Congress will take place in the Middle East in Abu Dhabi, UAE, and it will thus offer road professionals in that region a unique opportunity to obtain information on current trends and challenges for roads and road transportation all over the world.”
