4-Day Airfield Pavement Design & Evaluation Masterclass 2019 to be Held Sep 3-6 in Central London, UK

A 4-Day Airfield Pavement Design & Evaluation Training Course will be held September 3-6, 2019 in Central London, United Kingdom (location to be announced soon). This course as been developed to give professionals involved in the design process a complete guide to understanding the overall pavement system, from the different types of pavements to the design methods and their limitations, through the reasons for materials specifications on to the lessons learned from past processes.

It will comprehensively cover new and proven pavement design processes, methodologies, techniques and strategies, rehabilitating processes and strategies, and analysis of asphalt, Portland cement, concrete, bitumen, and pavements of different materials. The course will be conducted by an expert on the subject matter with real-life case studies and class exercises to encourage interactive discussion among participants.

SPEAKER: The invited speaker is a technical advisor/reviewer for the design of major runway developments at Brisbane and Melbourne Airports, Australia, and has 50 years of experience in the design, construction, and maintenance of aerodrome pavements—initially through engineering responsibility for Australia’s civil and defense aerodromes, with the Australian Government; then 1989-1998 as Chief Pavements Engineer-Federal Airports Corporation (FAC): design, construction, maintenance, condition assessment, valuation and load rating of runways, taxiways and aprons at the Corporation’s 22 airports throughout Australia, including 8 International Airports.

Since 1998-became a private consultant—Overseas aircraft pavement projects at India’s Hyderabad and New Delhi airports, Kuala Lumpur, Hong Kong, Kuwait, Larnaka Airport in Cyprus, Manila, Papua New Guinea and Wellington and Dunedin airports in New Zealand; Represented Australia on the International Civil Aviation Organization’s (ICAO) specialist pavement study group formed to consider the load rating (ACN) of new and future large aircraft; Member of the planning committee for the US full-scale aircraft pavement test machine; 2009-Traveled to France and the U.S. on behalf of the Australian Airports Association (AAA) to limit increases in tire pressures in future aircraft that were proposed by Boeing and Airbus; Involved in the development of the aircraft pavement design computer program, APSDS-now widely used for the structural design of flexible aircraft pavements; Presented training courses on aircraft pavement design and construction to Australian Airports, to Airport Consulting organizations, and to Australian Department of Defense2013 Australian Airports Association’s Chairman’s Award for Outstanding Service to the Airport Industry.
