About this forum: In the public domain, concrete pavements are often used as the foundation beneath urban design requirements such as granite pavers, precast concrete and concrete block paving. This forum will concentrate on:
• Concrete pavement quality for urban design requirements
• Project update; project test results
• Rapid repair concrete technology
• Slump testing realities
• RMS update
• Making PowerPoints better
Anna-Carin Brink, Associate Director-Pavements-AECOM, Perth and Former Director-ISCP, will highlight basic principles which, if adhered to, will result in relatively maintenance-freepavements where an architect’s dream does not become the end-user’s disaster.
Geoff Ayton, Concrete Pavement Consulting Engineer-Bayside Personnel-Roswell, NSW, Honorary Member-ASCP, and Honorary Member, ISCP will propose a draft benchmarking system for project test results.
Michael Heathwood, Construction Manager-Laing O’Rourke-Boambee, NSW and David Groth, Pavement and Geotechnical Manager-Northern Roads and Maritime Services, will update what has happened on the Woolgoolga to Ballina Project over the last six months—with particular emphasis on the status of the concrete pavement works.
James Aldred, Technical Director-Concrete Future/AECOM and Adj Assoc Professor-Civil & Environmental Engineering-UNSW, will address issues of durability for concrete with added calcium chloride—added to concrete containing regular Portland cement to accelerate the rate of hydration and give a high early strength for rapid slab replacement.
Peter Carson, A/Director-Projects Hunter Roads & Maritime Services, will provide an overview of European studies of calcium sulfoaluminate (CSA) concrete—produces concrete that is low shrinkage and early setting which is sometimes used in the rapid repair of concrete pavements. Following some animated discussion about slump testing at our last forum, Geoff Ayton will comment on benefits and limitations of this test as a control measure.
Sam Henwood, Director-Pavements & Geotechnical Engineering Services | Technical & Project Services-Roads & Maritime Services, will provide an update on the many changes at Roads and Maritime Services … not just in the Pavements Branch.
PowerPoint has become part of our everyday life. Justin Moss, Associate Technical Director and Pavements Team Leader-Arcadis will share some power tips for working with PowerPoint to develop consistent, compatible, attractive, functional and animated PowerPoint presentations. Afterward, he will facilitate a discussion and/or demonstration of ideas solicited from the audience.
