The National Precast Concrete Association (NPCA)‘s 3rd Edition of the Manual for Jointed Precast Concrete Pavement is now available. Published by NPCA—an ISCP Organizational Member—, in conjunction with the Precast Concrete Paving Slabs Product Committee, the manual was written by Peter Smith, P.E., The Fort Miller Group and Mark B. Snyder, Ph.D., P.E., Pavement Engineering and Research Consultants, LLC both experts in jointed precast concrete pavement systems.
This Manual is a comprehensive technical manual that describes jointed precast concrete pavement systems in detail and presents a step-by-step guide that can be used by Departments of Transportation, system designers, precast concrete manufacturers, contractors, inspectors, and agencies/owners. The 13 chapters include dozens of technical illustrations, charts and photographs that amplify the text and provide a roadmap for anybody who is designing, estimating, manufacturing, installing or inspecting a jointed precast concrete pavement system. It begins with a description of applications of the technology and explores designs, plan development, shop drawings, fabrication, and pre-installation procedures. Also included are tips for developing specifications, system-specific installation processes, post-installation finishing procedures, and maintenance requirements.
