The Australian Society for Concrete Pavements (ASCP) will conduct two full-day Workshops on Concrete Overlays on two separate days:
1 – Tuesday August 7—Invited delegates only: Road asset owners (State Road Authorities) and Corporate Members of ASCP only
2 – Thursday August 9—Open registration for ALL interested industry practitioners: Contains all of the information presented on the Tuesday workshop. Registrations for this workshop must be made through the ASCP website.
Location:
Lachlan/Macquarie rooms—Pullman Quay Grand Sydney Harbour
61 Macquarie Street | East Circular Quay | Sydney, Australia
On Wednesday August 8, ASCP has arranged for the two USA experts to be available to Roads and Maritime Services for detailed in-house discussions.
ASCP is pleased to have two presenters from the USA who are renowned experts in the field of concrete overlays at these two August workshops: Gary Fick, Project Manager-The Transtec Group, Inc. and V.P.-Trinity Construction Management Services; and Dale Harrington, HCE Services and Newsletter-National Concrete Pavement Technology Center (CP Tech Center)-Iowa State University. Detailed inquiries through ISCP and ASCP led to the recommendation of Gary Fick and Dale Harrington as the leading experts on concrete overlays. They are prime authors and co-authors of the vast wealth of technical information on concrete overlays in the USA, principally through the CP Tech Center, and have presented to Federal, State and local agencies on concrete overlays for over a decade. Founded in 2000 and supported by Federal and State authorities and industry, the CP Tech Center is the national hub for concrete pavement research and technology transfer, and has been instrumental in developing and helping to advance the United States’ strategic plan for concrete pavement research via The CP Road Map.
Many Australian highways are now reaching 40 years or so of service and may need rehabilitation or replacement in the near future. Concrete overlays may provide good rehabilitation options in many cases, so it is important that our industry is aware of them and the specific details for their design and construction. Currently, Australia is not familiar with concrete overlay technology information. In the USA, concrete overlays have been a successful rehabilitation technology since the early 1900s and particularly over the past 40 years. The goal of these two ASCP Workshops is to educate, promote, and provide vast networking opportunities. ASCP aims to facilitate the development of concrete overlay technology in Australia, drawing on the considerable technology expertise and construction experience from the USA.
The Workshops will provide:
• Comprehensive overview of overlays as a viable and sustainable rehabilitation option
• Economic and performance benefits
• Roles and responsibilities of asset owners in this process
• Technical design
• Construction details on concrete overlays
Ample time will be provided for interaction and discussion with the USA presenters. Consequently, numbers will necessarily be limited to facilitate such interaction. Delegates will also receive concrete overlay resource documents and a PDF document containing the workshop presentation slides.
