Communication and promotion of “PavementDesigner.org”—a free web-based pavement design tool for streets, local roads, parking lots, and intermodal/industrial facilities—has been in full force since its launch in January. The paper titled “Regionalized life cycle assessment tool for designing concrete pavement alternatives”, that explains the ins and outs of the software, was submitted to the committee for the 13th International Symposium on Concrete Roads 2018 (13th ISCR-2018) that was held June 19-22 in Berlin, Germany. The Symposium is a major worldwide conference concerning the design, construction, maintenance, and management aspects of concrete pavements—including sustainability and all types of applications such as highways, rural roads, urban infrastructure, roundabouts, airports, heavy-duty pavements etc. The paper is by ISCP Member Eric Ferrebee, P.E.-Director of Technical Services Engineer-American Concrete Pavement Association (ACPA), Andy Gieraltowski-VP of Operations and IT-ACPA, and Jerry Voigt, P.E.-President and CEO-ACPAEric Ferrebee, the primary author, was awarded with one of two “Best Paper” honors during the 13th ISCR-2018. The paper was selected from over 80 submitted worldwide!

Eric Ferrebee said, “This award is an affirmation of the investment in industry time and resources toward the simple, user-friendly, web-based concrete pavement thickness design platform. I am proud to be getting the word out and to have been part of the team that worked so hard to launch the project and since to continue improving it.”

“PavementDesigner.org” was equally funded by ACPA, National Ready Mix Concrete Association (NRMCA), and Portland Cement Association (PCA), with additional financial support from the Roller Compacted Concrete (RCC) Pavement Council. ACPA served as the project technical Lead, responsible for migrating existing windows-based design software applications, as well as the overall project manager, prioritizing the software developer’s tasks and managing the project budget. ACPA also performed coding of certain parts of the application and lead the beta testing phase. The project was delivered on time and within budget.

To continue to build awareness for “PavementDesigner.org”, with support from PCA, ACPA has launched the latest round of social media messaging. The infographics are being posted intermittently throughout the summer on Twitter, Facebook & InstagramACPA invites members, affiliates, and industry allies to join the discussion!
