Cement Council of Texas to Hold First Set of 4 Workshops in the U.S. Detailing “ACI 330.2R-17” Across Texas in October

Registration is now open for the first set of 4 workshops in the US detailing the ACI 330.2R-17 Document: “Guide for the Design and Construction of Concrete Site Paving for Industrial and Trucking Facilities” recently released in 2017 by the Cement Council of Texas (CCT). Attendees will be some of the first to be trained using this 2017 American Concrete Institute (ACI) Guide. There will be four (4) workshops across Texas in October, 2017. Other such workshops across the US and beyond will be held in 2018, as word spreads about the ability to use the new ACI guidance to optimize concrete pavements to reduce costs, while still ensuring performance.

Join engineers, contractors, and owners for a workshop detailing best design and construction practices for concrete parking lots, site and industrial paving. The focus of this seminar will be using 3 of the ACI’s “ACI-330 guides” (2008, 2014, and 2017):

  • ACI 330R-08: Guide for the Design and Construction of Concrete Parking Lots
  • ACI 330.2R-17: Guide for the Design and Construction of Concrete Site Paving for Industrial and Trucking Facilities
  • ACI 330.1-14: Specification for Unreinforced Concrete Parking Lots and Site Paving

DESCRIPTION
Concrete paving in parking lots, site paving, and trucking facilities provides value and long life for its owners, when properly designed and constructed. Building and facility assessments are often enhanced with concrete pavement because of its aesthetic appeal, low maintenance, high performance under a variety of traffic loads, and reduced lighting requirements.

Parking lots and industrial sites are different than street paving in many respects, so design, detailing, and construction methods specific to these types of pavements should be utilized by practitioners. A properly designed and detailed concrete pavement can often cost less than a comparable flexible pavement, and provide many more years of low-maintenance service. However, these pavements can become more expensive, or exhibit reduced performance (or both), when inappropriate design methods are used—such as AASHTO-93, which was developed for highway pavements—or when pavement types and features are poorly selected.

This seminar will use the guides developed by ACI’s “Parking Lot and Site Paving Committee (ACI 330)” to teach best practices in paving design and construction. These guides are the concrete industry’s most current consensus recommendations for parking, site and industrial pavement design. Key topics will include:

  • Simplified thickness design using tools developed from mechanistic-empirical principles
  • Subgrade and base considerations:  Designing and appropriate support system without breaking the bank
  • Jointing and detailing as key design components (and why redwood expansion joints should never be used)
  • The concrete mixture: Cement, aggregates, SCMs, admixtures and fibers, for workability, strength, and durability
  • Construction using slipform pavers, screeds, and other methods
  • Ensuring concrete quality through proper placement, curing, and saw-cutting
  • Maintaining your concrete pavement investment for longevity

Seminar instructors are recognized national experts in their field, and are member of the ACI 330 committee and/or other committees, helping to develop industry standards.
