Registration is now open to join the Academy of Pavement Science and Engineering (APSE)—a global academic community aimed to educate, innovate, and advance the profession of pavement science and engineering. As a community of academics involved in teaching and research related to pavement science and engineering, founders, board of governors, officers, and members share many of the same passions, ambitions, and concerns. APSE paves the way and defines the future of our profession. APSE is extending invitations to become a member, be engaged in its activities, and be informed. VISION: Strive to build safe, secure, and sustainable mobility for people and goods through academic excellence.
MISSION: Serve the pavement science and engineering academic community through education, research and professional development.
LAUNCH: In 2012, Imad Al-Qadi, Director-Illinois Center for Transportation invited a group of academic leaders from various educational institutions worldwide for a meeting where they formulated and debated a basic vision for how to advance pavement engineering education and research, and to set a new course for preparing the next generation of pavement engineers for professional practice. These founding academic leaders are now on the APSE Board of Governors: Professors Imad Al-Qadi, Bjorn Birgisson, John Harvey, Dallas Little, and Tom Scarpas.
By October 14, 2015, academics from a wide spectrum of research-active and education-focused institutes met in Chicago, Illinois, USA, to discuss the formation of APSE. Together, they reviewed, discussed, debated, and further refined the vision for the development of a pavement science and engineering academic workforce—with the knowledge and skills necessary to address the needs and the demands of the multi-trillion-dollar infrastructure that underpins the world’s economies. They worked meticulously behind the scenes to define the group and draft its mission, vision, and roadmap as related to its three core activities:
• Education
• Research
• Professional Development
APSE’s activities are facilitated by Board of Governors and Elected Officers:ISCP Board Directors and ISCP Members who are APSE Members:
Jeff Roesler, ISCP President; Jake Hiller, ISCP Secretary-Treasurer; and Julie Vandenbossche, ISCP Member
