ENGLISH TRANSLATION: Complete video of the TCP section to evaluate pavement damage 3 weeks after the Chiloé earthquake—the full itinerary through the Quellón, Colonia Yungay section of Route 5 in Chiloé, Chile heading North-South. The project was solicited by the Ministry of Public Works of Chile and is located in the Chiloé Island, in the south of Chile. This island has a rainy cool climate that together with the poor capacity of soils in the area, create a complicated scenario for pavements. This project is a part of the Pan-American Highway, where there are more TC Pavement (TCP) projects.
It has a joint spacing of 7.21 feet, and the traffic of 25,000,000 ESALS is composed by different kind of vehicles due to internal trade, intercity connection, tourism and fish trade, main activity in the Island. The structure under the concrete is composed by a granular base of 5.9 inches and a subbase as a soil improvement that varies its size between 0 to 19.6 inches, depending on the subgrade capacity. This video shows the entire project made with the TCP system after the earthquake so, as the video demonstrates, there was no damage!! The earthquake reached the 7.6 points on the Richter scale and there were no victims in the island.
