A Concrete Pavement Seminar titled “Seminario Sobre Pavimento de Hormigón Reúne en Nuestro País a Referentes Internacionales” was held in Asuncion, Paraguay November 8-11, 2016 to tout the benefits of concrete paving in the country. Currently, Paraguay does not design and construct concrete pavements but does produce 1,000,000 metric tons of cement annually.
Jeff Roesler, ISCP President and Prof University of Illinois, met with government officials, engineers, contractors, and university faculty and students to present at the seminar to explain the technical benefits of designing and building concrete pavements. There were 350 attendees. The event was organized by the Chamber of Elaborated Concrete (Capihe) with support from the National Cement Industry (NCI). The Unión Industrial Paraguaya (UIP). Avenida Sacramento 945-, hosted the Seminar and had the dissertation of the specialists Ing. Diego Jaramillo, Director of Pavements of the FIHP and member of Asocreto (Colombia); Magdalena Pastorini, representative of the Ministry of Transport and Public Works and Professor-University of Montevideo (Uruguay); and Mr. Álvaro Gónzalez, former Vice-President of the FIHP (Uruguay) and current General Manager of Serviam in Paraguay.
The event—aimed at civil engineers, architects, concrete producers, university students of end-use careers and those in the construction sector—addressed topics such as: “Solutions and Alternatives for Concrete Pavements”, “Design and Construction of Concrete Pavements”, “7 Reasons to Use Concrete Pavements”, “Last 25 Years of Concrete Pavements in Uruguay”, and “Fundamental Reasons to Consider Pavements Rigid “.
