Equipment World Online Magazine recently reported this fascinating drone video (4 minutes+17 seconds) of the new SR 99 Tunnel—future double-deck highway—in Seattle, Washington, USA. This drone video shows”Bertha”, the largest tunnel-boring machine in the world, tunneling below the Alaskan Way Viaduct—which its SR 99 tunnel will replace (SR 99 Alaskan Way Viaduct Replacement Program). A few days before Bertha descended below the Seattle viaduct, Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) officials decided to fly a drone through the incomplete tunnel. A drone, approaches the Bertha tunnel-boring machine during a fight inside the incomplete SR99 tunnel.
The footage from the drone offers a great tour of the project and brings the viewer face to face with all of the double deck highway of concrete pavements—built in 54-foot sections; curved concrete tunnel segments/walls; concrete ceilings; and of course, the machine Bertha herself.
