ISCP Co-Sponsoring Commemoration: 125th Anniversary of the First U.S. Concrete Pavement, to be Held April 25th

In 1891, an 8-ft-wide section of the first concrete pavement was placed on Main Street in front of the Logan County Courthouse in Bellefontaine, Ohio, USA. A segment placed in 1893 on Court Street still remains in service today.

ISCP is co-sponsoring a 125th Anniversary Celebration of the first concrete pavement in the United States. The event will be held on Monday, April 25, 2016 in Bellefontaine, Ohio, one day prior to the National Concrete Consortium (NCC) Spring meeting—to be held April 26-28, 2016, in Columbus, Ohio.

The event is organized by the Task Force on Preservation of Artifacts from Historical Concrete Pavements

Part 1Celebrating Evolution of Concrete Pavements: from 1:00 to 2:45 pm at the Hyatt Regency Columbus Hotel.
An historical perspective and remembering the heritage: Invited presentations on historical highlights of concrete pavement technology developments in the United States and Canada.

Part 2Site Visit (Buses—or personal transportation if desired—Depart at 3:00 p.m.)
• Arrive Bellefontaine at about 4:00 pm
• Reception at the Logan County Transportation Museum, Logan County
• History Center (4:00 to 4:30 pm)
• Site visit – Historical concrete pavement section and downtown area (4:30 to 5:15 pm)
• Depart Bellefontaine at 5:15 pm
• Der Dutchman Restaurant Dinner 5:45 to 7:15 pm
• Leave Restaurant at 7:15 pm; Arrive at the Hyatt by 8:00 pm

Attendance at both events, including bus transportation, is free. Dinner cost is $20.00 per person, payable in cash before boarding the bus or at the restaurant.
