Juan Pablo Covarrubias Torres, Sr. (Chile) was recently elected to Honorary Members of ISCP and will be formally inducted into honorary membership at either the January 9, 2016 Annual Membership Meeting in Washington, D.C., USA, or at the 11th International Conference on Concrete Pavements (11th ICCP) in San Antonio, Texas, USA, in August, 2016. He joins an elite group in attaining the Society’s highest recognition, which is bestowed upon selected individuals that have provided exemplary service to the Society and/or to the improvement of concrete pavement technology.
Mr. Covarrubias is an internationally recognized concrete and concrete pavement expert who has contributed significantly towards the development of concrete pavement technology in Latin America for more than 40 years. He was a team leader for the development of concrete response models for concrete pavements for HDM4, and is the inventor of Thin Concrete Pavement (TCP – patent no. 44820), which has been widely implemented in several countries in Central and South America. Juan Pablo has also been a Professor of Engineering since 1973, teaching at the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile and the Universidad de los Andes. With respect to ISCP, Mr. Covarrubias was an active collaborator in the founding of ISCP in the late 1990s and served on ISCP’s Board of Directors with great commitment and distinction for several terms. He was instrumental in helping to gain international acceptance for ISCP as a truly international professional organization.
