2nd ACCTA to be held in Johannesburg, South Africa Jan 27-29, 2016 with Pre-Conference Lectures Jan 25-26

wits-crestThe University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg, South Africa announces the 2nd International Conference on Advances in Cement and Concrete Technology in Africa (ACCTA), to be held at Emperor’s Palace in Johannesburg, South Africa, January 27-29, 2016, with Pre-Conference Lectures January 25-26. ACCTA is an excellent hub for experienced and young aspiring cement and concrete experts from all continents in the world with the aim to establish a sustainable and economically efficient cement and concrete technology in Africa that impacts societies worldwide. As with ACCTA 2013, ACCTA 2016 will be an excellent international platform to cross-link experts in the field of cement and concrete technology with key players from research institutions, industries, associations and policy-making bodies. The three-day 2013 conference hosted more than 200 scientists and industry representatives from 47 nations, including 20 African countries—paving the way for ACCTA to be developed into a triennial event.

Papers presented will have the conference themes:

  • New and advanced technology in cement and concrete construction
  • Innovative construction and sustainability
  • Sustainable cement and concrete technology for Africa
  • Wastes and by-products for sustainable construction
  • Civil engineering materials and composites
  • Building energy conservation and green architecture
  • Engineering and construction safety in Africa (fire, floods, earthquakes and man-made disasters)
  • Structural design and durability
  • Rehabilitation and maintenance of concrete structures
  • Education and research policies and standardization for future concrete solutions
  • Social, economic and environmental aspects of cement and concrete construction

The conference is technically supported by the BAM (Bundesanstalt für Materialforschung und -prüfung: Federal Institute for Materials Research and Testing—Berlin, Germany); as well as the University of Zagreb, Croatia; and is co-sponsored by RILEM (International Union of Laboratories and Experts in Construction Materials, Systems and Structures) and ACI (The American Concrete Institute).
